[Mk2] [Turbo] Rev3 Tubby struggles to idle
as per title been started up my rev3 after a couple of months and noticed idle was quite low (around 500rpm) when cold and then the car struggles to idle and cuts off. No obvious leaks and no eml on. Revs up and drives fine just wont idle on its own accord
Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Rev3 Tubby struggles to idle
check and clean the idle control valve, it can get sticky over time, especially if not used for a while and not open enough to allow enough air flow for idle.
Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Rev3 Tubby struggles to idle
How do you check and clean the control valve? what do you clean it with? is it not really sensitive and easy to mess up?
Cheers, Michael.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Rev3 Tubby struggles to idle
yeh not ideal these screws. find a large screwdriver bit, as its so easy to round these off.
worse case, dremel a slot and use a flathead screwdriver.
after this, not much option but to drill the head off.

always handy to use a spare battery and feed the pins 12vs to see what the valve is doing when you have it off.
you can check the vid or online manual for which pins to ground and give power too.
with some cleaning agents, ive used vehicle degreaser and wd40, the valve should easily open and close fully.

Re: [Mk2] [Turbo] Rev3 Tubby struggles to idle
All done and car idles perfect - Many THanks Jim !
The valve was stuck closed and surrounded by soot, Used (plenty) of brake cleaner all over / inside.. Cleaned all off then was moving freely.
Put everything back together and car started up on the button and idles percect.
