Opinions please......

Post by LouisePiggin »

Now I know these are chalk and cheese but if you had the choice of the two and it was to be used as a daily driver which would you choose and why?

3VZFE/1MZFE or 20V Blacktop.

I’m thinking....

V6 wins for Sound/Torque but would it be worse if things go wrong and then are harder to sort as different bits from different cars to execute the conversion. Specialist mechanic unavailability local. 100 odd miles to Driftlimits, over 200 to Paul at Woodsport etc.

20V wins due to always wanting ITB’s, retaining the character of the AW11 that i love but with a touch more power. Relatively simple conversion so should be easier to maintain etc

Opinions welcome, but for the answers please imagine it’s use will be for a daily driver.

Especially like to hear from those with either version of an AW.

Thanks

Lou

Many moons ago I drove a 20v Silvertop converted car. I know the Blacktop is a better spec. The ITB's sound really good, but if you're expecting it to be much quicker you will be a bit dissapointed as the difference is not huge between that and the 16v.

I've driven a Blacktop 20V in an AE86. It felt pretty good from what I remember, but the AE86 is a fair bit lighter than an MR2.

The V6 with the increased torque will make it a nicer daily driver, but it depends what you want of course.

Thanks Lauren, pretty much sums up what i’m thinking.

I really like to be able to drive a car to it’s limits and that would suit the BT better on road better as not going to be a silly speeds whilst doing that.

Plus the ITB’s, silly as it sounds, Ive always wanted a car with them.

Doubt there is room to ITB the V6 #-o

Driven a Mk1.5 before, didn’t enjoy driving that as much as a 4AGE.

Got to find a V6 mk1 to have a ride in, anyone close to Norfolk with a V6 AW11? Pretty please :D

There is room to ITB a V6, but it's a royal PITA to get it all running.

I've got a 1mz mk1 it's definitely a lot of fun to drive and it's not too bad for fuel consumption (I usually get around 25mpg). But it's not a very revvy engine, I usually change gear around 4500 rpm. So if you want to rev the nuts off it down country lanes you'll probably be happier with a 4a motor or it might be worth looking into a 2zz swap.

My car is is currently sorned for the winter but I'd be more than happy to take you out for a spin if you're ever in my neck of the woods
