[Mk2] [Turbo] Cleaning engine and gearbox

Post by markstevieandmads »

Just taken my turbo engine and gearbox out and its caked with grime as its never been removed in the 23yrs its been on the road.

Can i just spray it with gunk and jet wash it or will i need to remove all the electrical components etc?

Do i need to cover the missing exhaust ports etc or will it all dry out anyway as its not going back in the car for a good few months anyway?

Just cover the end of wiring loom and exhaust ports.

get the spray and brush on gunk and a nice stiff brush.

I've done it to loads of engines which have been in and out of the car without any problems.

Just don't get the jet washer to close to any sensors etc

The best stuff I've used by far was

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1-LTR-40-1-CA ... 2749.l2649

I cleaned my whole engine with this. (took parts off I admit) and just left them soaking in it in a bucket of waterfor 15- 20mins (like the inlet parts) and the grime literally wiped off. Its weird because you can see it fizz's slightly so I did rinse all parts thoroughly afterwards as well as its obviously quite strong.

Did the block with it as well amazingly. the oil and grit and stuff came off so easily

Ah yeah it says 40:1 so I guess it lasts quite a while!

Ive ordered some up so will put the engine back on the crane and drag it outside and get to work in the open air lol

Thanks
