Stick with 10w40 semi synthetic or can I use 5w40 fully synthetic ?

Post by mr2_maverick »

I am being cheap, I want to use fully synthetic but 10w40 fully synthetic is expensive and harder to find in local shops. So is there anything wrong with using 5w40 fully synthetic? My engine also has a piston slap which goes away once at operating temperature so I would maintain the cold oil thickness. My car is an NA and sees the redline often (of course only at operating temperature). I want to run it on track at some point so I thought fullly synthetic might be better for me. My car already has 10w40 semi in there if that makes a difference. Thanks for your input.

A good 5W40 will be fine.
