No power to the thick black and red permanent live or no power to the small solenoid activation wire when trying to start the car?

The thick black red has to be a fuse as it's part of the main permanent live feed from front to rear. Open the fuse box in the frunk and look at the big fuses at the bottom

I assume you have checked the battery terminals! And you have power in the battery!

So if all fuses are ok what lights come on on the dash with key on but not twisted to start?
Does the car have an old alarm/immobilizer?

Some immobilizers work on the starter and the fuel pump.

It is also not unheard of that the switch in the ignition can take a dump.

What did you do to get power to the main feed?

As has been said the ignition switch can fail, does the car have an aftermarket alarm fitted?

I just used the multi meter properly, :D

Yeah it does have an aftermarket alarm, I only got the car last weekend and trying work it out.

I can not see any details of a alarm manufacturer anyway. Would it be worth just ripping the alarm out?

If it's not working properly yes, I take it the starter isn't turning when you twist the key to start?

Do you have a fob for the alarm and does it activate/deactivate?

You need to do a continuity test from the sta wire off at the ignition barrel switch all the way back to the wire at the starter and figure out where it's been cut into and repair it.

It goes from.the ignition barrel to a wiring connector in the passenger footwell and from there to the boot, it's probably been cut between the ignition and passenger footwell it shouldn't be too hard to find

Yes the key fob activates and deactivates.

Ok thank you for your help, I am going to rip the alarm out tomorrow and fingers crossed it fixes the problem.

Another check this morning...

There seems to be no power to the solenoid wire when cranked.

If you have power to both wires and the starter is not turning, then give the starter a smack with a hammer and see if it starts.

If it does it means the brushes are on their way out.

Just happened to me recently.
