Fuel Capacity

Post by SuperRedMR2 »

Hi all,

I have run the tank as dry as I can the last two times. Both times the light has come on and flashed constantly.

However in both instances the max amount of fuel I can put it before it spits it out the top, is 33 litres. I thought this was a 40 litre tank?

I'm assuming it's just not empty enough?

The maximum I had with my 1989 SC was 39,46 litre.

With the other MK1s the maximum I had to put in so far was 34,28.

Friend of mine's little 125cc ran out recently. Didn't run dry but amber light for a long time, maybe 20 miles. Supposedly a 6.5l tank ( ) but could only put in 4.7l... I think these fuel reserve lights are a reeeeeally generous quantity left.

I ran an MR2 dry once but I can't remember how many litres I got in afterwards #-o #-o #-o #-o

It is a 40 litre tank. The light is on the conservative side.

All low fuel lights are like this. In my GT86 it has a 50 litre tank but the light comes on when I have 10 litres left.

The light is very conservative. The most I've got out of the car with it on was almost 50 miles before I bottled it and had to fill up!

I managed to squeeze in 39.5 litres on a JAE trip a couple of years ago, the fuel light was on for waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to long, just made it to the pump lol.

My fuel gauge works but my low warning light doesn't. Anyone know what causes that?
I got caught out testing to see if it worked not long after I got the car
