Wheels question

Post by robbie_742003 »

Hi all,
Finally got round to sorting out a set of after market wheels that I had damaged on an old 2 years ago. Now, I don't think I had them on long enough to change any tyres before they got damaged and assumed they were (as per usual mk2 mr2) staggered. I had the tyres removed recently and gave them a clean today. What's completely f$$$ed my head up is that I've laid them out flat next to each other and they're all the same width!
Do people run mr2s on non staggered set ups? I never noticed any handing issues.
Any help or advice very much appreciated.

Hi Rob if you look at the rims they are normally embossed with the width size. I may be corrected here but from memory factory set up was 7j on the front and 7.5j on the rear. It may be possible rev 1 wheels were not staggered and rev 2 onwards were changed to help deal with the lively handling of earlier cars.

Just to add to that I'm on aftermarket wheels of the same width (wider than factory) but my front tyre is stretched onto rim. This wasn't done by me but the original builder. It works a treat for me. Was major improvement after full alignment

All MK2's had staggered tyres.
I've heard of a few people running same tyres front and back on N/A's with no troubles but i wouldn't

stock is 6" front and 7" rear x 15's for rev2+. With an offset of say 30, I reckon 7.5" front and 8.5" rears would be best if you want to fit and forget without body mods but yes 8/9 ET35 fit very snug and if you want to fill that wheels width then plenty of arch rolling required. Depends on what you want of course :thumleft:

I had some 16x7 wheels on all 4 corners. I had 205 45 16 on the front and 225 45 16 on the rear and they worked a treat
