Lovely. Black looks best when it's ultra shiny.

WOW!!!!

I've been thinking about getting a DA polisher, but a self proclaimed virgin to it..... never know what to buy and get scared off.

I'm afraid I cannot help with the question but good luck with the project.

I've just got a Rev3 mr2 turbo and mainly into my mx5s including some high powered turbo'd, supercharged amongst them.

Mine is a bit of a project too.

If you need the outer sills I think the seller on eBay is MR2-Ben. Has a website with lots of other parts too. When you get any parts I would recommend the replacement bolts Ben does to replace the Phillips cam cover screws.

Although mine is a rev3 turbo it had a refreshed/uprated rev2 turbo engine fitted 8000 miles ago with the rev3 turbo, engine management, larger injectors, etc. so I guess similar direction you are going.

I believe you can yes but it's quite quick to drop the engine too.

Not all bad..... you still have the costly parts at your disposal:

Gearbox
Turbo
All ancillaries

So all you really need is the engine - probability 500 bones. Maybe less.

Or just a good excuse to strip down snd forge the engine :-)

I was thinking of going for a rebuild so would be interested in it if it could be rebuilt.

I'm not sure really. It'd be hard to say. I'd imagine if rust on the bores then no good really even as a block unless a light bore and home would clean it up. But the what about the oil and water gallaries? Not sure.... I'm no expert to advise

When I went forged I used a rev 2 bottom end and kept rev 3 top for my own reasons, could be the same use for you perhaps, with a rebuild of course.

the guy that gave me the car has said i can have the 2 sets of spare cams he has for it. so one less thing.

really need to drop the sump and check pistons/bores. see what actually needs replacing.

Personally if you are planning on keeping / using this engine. I would drop the whole thing and strip it down check all the oil galleries and condition of the bores, bottom end etc. if the rust is that bad it'll probably have got all over.

had a poke at the sills.....wish i hadnt :P

then i took the side vent off to look there (id read it can rust around the vent) luckily its solid. also the subframe and suspension components just have surface rust / dirt on them. so ill be cleaning and painting what i can whilst the welding gets done on the sills.

passenger side is less rusty and for some reason only drivers rear arch is rusted a bit.

trying to locate a mig to borrow to get it welded up, going to buy repair panels (just the drivers side for now) and get to it whilst we still have these long evenings.

Looks familiar :(

They fix up well and if you're handy with a welder the replacements you can buy are really good.
