What alloys people using?

Post by CurtisRW »

So I've just bought a mk1 and the one of the rear OEM wheels is cracked so I am looking to replace all the wheels.

Just wondered what other people were rocking?
Also, any recommendations on where to buy alloys?

Include pics if you've got any :D

What alloys are they?

I know I have a couple of MK1a alloys in the shed.

Mine currently runs on Toyota Paseo wheels, same size as originals but much better looking. Will try and find a pic.
I am going to live forever, or die trying!

Offset isn't as good on the Roadster wheels and they corrode badly. Cheap but a bit of a meh option.

Get some proper JDM wheels on there! Think Rays, Work, Enkei, Wedsport etc if you want an authentic look. Reduce the offset a bit and it will look better and increase the track slightly.

I love the advans usually but I don't think they work on a Mk1. I like your Works, can I ask what size and offset they are?
If you can't see the angle, you're in trouble.

Really?? I think they suit the mk1 more than the mk2

The work wheels are:
7j x 16 et20 front
8j x 16 et30 rear
The fitment is quite flush and could really do with getting the arches rolled as they scrub the lip of the arches over bumpy roads

Thanks for that. One last question, where did you buy them from?

And yeah, I prefer the look of the three spokes on a Mk2 over on a Mk1.

Had my eye out for a set for the wifes mk3 for a while, they'd need to be in the original finish with the red lip though which makes them even harder to find

I've just fitted 13x8 Compomotive CX-R in satin black to the mk1, looks properly aggressive now but I need to get the faded paint sorted

Thats the ones I have
After buying from japan, associated fees/duty, refurb to factory black/red rim and new tyres I think i'm into them for about 1200quid
And they are going on a car that cost me less than 700

Thanks for the response.

Quick question, how well do 7" width's fit since the stock ones are 6J just wondering if a 7J 15" will fit

7" is fine. I would go 7.5" with a 195/50/15. I've done this on my AE86*.

*I haven't tried 7.5" on an MR2, it's been a long time since I've owned one now. But I don't see why it would be an issue. Get the offset right though. You'll likely want to reduce it over stock by 10mm.

Hi Phil,

have you got any pictures? What offset did you go for and do they fit over standard brakes?

Cheers

Not got any proper pics yet but the wheels themselves clear the brakes ok (Standard mk1b at the front, mk2 22v calipers on mk1b front discs at the rear) although I do have to be careful with the placement of any balance weights on the rear. I'm running zero offset with bolt on arch extensions although there's a fair bit of clearance on the suspension so you could run a positive offset to tuck them in a bit and maybe get them under standard arches if need be.
