Regarding 225/50R16, I think they look fine. I did have rubbing issues (8J ET32 ish), but my car is quite low. The rubbing wasn't severe, it was just catching a little bit on the lip inside the rear arch.

I don't generally care how they look, as long as they're not silly big. I think the modern trend for super low profile, rubber band esque tyres on giant rims look bloody silly. And if they give a more comfy ride then all the better.

It was more me being a bit anal and wanting matching tyres all round.

I didn't actually take the wheel off and thought it would be stamped on the inside of the rim rather than the centre, I'll take one off and have a look. Thanks for the tips and pictures.

Update, took a wheel off and the wheels are 16x8JJ et35, given that my car is only lowered by 20mm does anyone think this will cause any rubbing issues?

You'll be fine - I know someone who had the same specs with 225/50R16 on -3mm springs, no issues.
