[Mk2] [Turbo] Removing turbo

Post by markstevieandmads »

I am at the point where i am trying to undo the 4 bolts from manifold to turbo (in square formation).
I cant get a socket on there so left with spanners.
Ive tried all my 14mm spanners and none are budging them. They just tend to try and round off the nut. I havent got 6 sided spanners but got 12 so they just spin too.

Ive got access to most the exhaust manifold nuts and studs but there is a big no no for removing the manifold itself.
Even with a 6 sided spanner i can see it being alot harder to remove that part than removing the manifold as well.

Is it really that much of a big deal to remove the whole lot?

I think I used a slim profile long reach spanner to get at the 4 studs on the elbow

6 sided spanner only, and use the double spanner trick.

all can be got from above.

Just been thinking bout it and im sure i was turning it round the wrong way lol

Will try again tommorow. Finding it hard to get hold of a 6 sided ring spanner.

Gonna have to have a dig around.

I can also see the hfh and it looks like it may have been leaking as its wet underneath though this maybe the shock wd40 stuff ive been using.
I have actually got a new hfh to fit but looks like the manifold has to completely come off to get to it properly?

Looks like I am gonna have to invest in a load of new turbo gaskets as got the water lines off the turbo and the gasket is pretty much non existant.
Hopefully ive already ordered the water gasket in a bunch a stuff I ordered from tcbparts.
