[Mk2] [Turbo] Headgasket replacement - any other mods/work to consider whilst head off

Post by rossonza »

im due to take the head off my rev2 turbo engine due to head gasket failure.

i know to use a rev3 metal headgasket to replace the stock gasket.

can i re use the studs? or worth going ARP?

read something about tvis removal? and possibly thermostat replacement.

thanks

Most definitely.

The issue is the exhaust downpipe and manifold preventing access to the hoses but obviously with a headgasket replacement these would already be removed so it's an easy job.

Whilst the head is off you could do some port matching/polishing, or simply clean and relap all the valves.
