[Mk2] [Turbo] what turbo does my car have

Post by rossonza »

Ive just been given a 1993 JDM import gt rev 2 car...

my friend whose given me the car advised its a c26...... but reading up it would appear the c20 is the stock unit?

is there an obvious way to confirm? he mentioned it was a rev 2 with lots of rev 3 bits on it... but as im new to mr2's I thought id ask here.

thanks
Ross.

CT26 will have CT26 on the turbo housing. CT20b will just have "Toyota" :thumleft:

stock turbo on a rev2 is a CT26. CT20b is rev3+.

No prob. Yeah ct26 tails off boost around 5k. CT20b is much better.

boost only tails off if your attempting to run raised boost.

stock boost levels, 10-11psi, will hold all the way to redline.

http://www.mrcontrols.com/primers/power.htm

take the HP numbers in the link with a pinch of salt, but this is a good guide of where to start.

260hp flywheel is about the limit with the standard ct26.

there is nothing wrong with raising the boost on a stock turbo, it just wont hold raised levels to redline.

you will pick up alot of torque midrange, itll just tail off a bit by redline.

plenty of people are perfectly happy with this.

you can either get the stock turbo reworked with a bigger compressor wheel (specialist required), which with hold raised boost to redline and youll pick up some HP in the process.

or you go to a rev3+ ct20b turbo route.

or of course you can completely forged the engine, fit every part available and strap on a huge turbo and run 800hp.

they are the stock turbo of choice.
so will be quite hard to come by.

so only way your going to get your hands on one is if someone is breaking a rev3+ or 94+ celica gt4 car, or someone who's upgraded the turbo to something bigger and actually wants to get rid of it.

you wont be the only person looking for one, so good to keep a look out for cars being broken.
