Squeaking alternator belt

Post by Greegs1979 »

Hi new to forum site as I have just purchased my first MK1 MR2 1988 (F). Need to either adjust or renew my alternator belt. Does anybody have a link or advice to help me. Not to mechanical minded so keen to learn new things I can try myself. Thanks for any help in advance :D

Loosen the bolts off on the alternator mounting bracket, get a 2 foot breaker bar which is how you'll tension it, then nip the bolts up. It's pretty self-eplanatory if you look at it.

You failed to mention that to much tension will soon knacker your alternator

Yes, I did, but given that whatever tension you put on it is dependent upon a total guess with a 2 foot breaker bar about all I can say is don't make it too tight.

Also be very careful how you position the breaker bar, it's very easy to crack/break the alternator housing.by applying pressure to the wrong place.
