[Mk2] [NA] Almost cutting out when stopping

Post by mister two »

Help with this please

Doesn't happen all the time only now and then. When I stop at a junction or pull over the car starts bogging down and almost cuts out. Even with the clutch down.

Last time it happened I had been driving all day and stopped the car several times with no issues. It happened when I got home after a motorway journey.

During normal driving its perfect

I've read about turbos losing power during driving but mine is an na and it's never while driving only when I come to a halt. Searched but I've not come across this situation

Suggestions?

What revision? Check for air leaks / vac leaks.

personally wouldnt touch the tps, but the idle control valve may be dirty, causing the flapper to not open on idle conditions. hence stalling.

worth a try anyways for a couple of hours of your time to remove and clean it.

Worth checking the calibration of the TPS against BGB spec anyway, takes 5 minutes and is free to do. The TPS's can fail :thumleft:

I don't think I've ever seen one fail! And if you've got it off the car and are doing the job properly, then of course check the tps!

I have a failed one in my lockup! Seems to calibrate OK, but car just didn't run right with it on there. Is fine with another TPS.
