MR2 Rev 4 Turbo (JDM Converted NA)

Post by Krish »

MR2 Rev 4 JDM Import. Originally an NA now a Rev 3 turbo conversion
Bought the car of forum member (Nij) in July 2013

Car is currently on 121000 Miles
Engine is currently on 100000 Miles
MOT until 06/03/2016 – No advisories

Build Thread Click

Exterior:
Rev 5 Spoiler with Carbon Blade
Carbon Side pod extensions
TOMS side skirts
TOMS carbon winglets (Currently not fitted to car)
USDM red rear indicator things
Rev 3 Wheels painted in black with Falken’s on the rear (6mm) and ditch finders on the front
Raybrig Headlights with Osram nightbreaker plus bulbs
Smoked side lights and side repeaters with LEDS
There is not severe rust anywhere. Obviously some surface rust bust sills and rear arches are perfect - Any inspection welcome

Engine:
Rev 3 Turbo engine out of a donor car with 135000km on it so about 85000 miles.
Engine was given a full health check, replaced water pump with cambelt kit in May 2012 (85,000 miles).
Engine was given a full service before it left Luke’s garage for the sonic shadow conversion.
I then did 3000 miles in it. Gave it an oil service and crashed it the next day!
Engine then sat there until April 2015 when I put it into this MR2.
The engine was up and running in this current MR2 at 109661. Since then I have added another 12000 miles and given her another oil service.

Engine mods:

Apexi Induction Kit
SARD R2D2 Dump valve
HKS Hi power exhaust system
Gutted CAT
ST205 Charge cooler conversion
Painted/colour coded engine bay
Magnecore HT leads
No boost controller but running at 0.9bar on full boost.

Brakes:
TOMS Braided brake lines
When I bought the car the first thing I did was order all new discs from Camskills, Pads from Toyota with all new clips. Replaced everything, re-greased the sliders, replaced both front callipers and gave the brake system a full flush. The front pads look like they’re down to 20% (ish). Rears seem OK but discs and clippers are fine.

Suspension:
Tein 40mm drop on standard shocks (all done by previous owners including new inserts) –Ride is OK but a bit low for my liking
Recently replaced rear anti roll bar bushes with polybush items
All suspension components in good condition
I have been stockpiling suspension bits and was next on my list to work on the car.

Interior:
Folding mirrors
Passenger side airbag
UK spec leather interior
Speedhut dials
Depo Racing boost gauge (tidy wiring job)
Man in Dandism mats
Alpine CDE-9880 headunit with ipod cable
Vibe 10” sub behind passenger seat with vibe amp
Sony front speakers
Phonix Gold 4 channel amp with Vibe crossovers/tweeters/mids (not connected)

Maintenance:
Both rear wheel bearing replaced recently
New Alternator belt (old one was squeaking)
Hoses from hell on Earth all sorted when I converted to Turbo.
Recon Gearbox when converted for sonic shadow.
Full Service at 109661
Oil service due now

Problems:
Front O/S top mount creaking badly. Like I stated earlier, I’m stockpiling suspension parts and top mounts and updated anti-roll bars were all that’s left to buy!!!

Tiny oil leak from Rotor arm oil seal (easy fix – just need o-ring before oil service and job done)

These are the only mechanical issues with the car. I challenge anyone to find any other mechanical fault. I would be genuinely shocked if they did!

Bodywork is in good condition but not mint!

Cleans and shines very nicely but carbon parts are all faded. This will need to be rubbed down and re-lacquered.

Under tray for front bumper is destroyed but I have a spare

Front trim on bumper is missing. I have 2 pairs; both require some work but can easily be fixed. I’ve just been too last to sort this out.

Missing front fog lights

It’s a sad day for me really. A part of me thought I would never sell this car (especially the rear clip) but times change and I want to go travelling. If I won the lottery I would let the car sit there until I got back but unfortunately this is not an option. Life goes on and one day I will be back in a 2 but for now, I just have to sell up and probably regret it in the future :?

Please call me on 07507237657 or pm me. Will try and keep an eye on the thread but if you pm/text/call me, you'll get a much quicker reply.

I doubt it.

Although it's taxed and insured looks like someone forgot the MOT expired last month .....

Apologies to everyone who replied and emailed me and got no response. I have set my notifications and will reply sooner.

The car is still for sale but as mentioned earlier, I forgot to MOT the car!!! Been sitting for many months while I decide what to do.

Car is running perfect and will be MOTed in the next couple of weekends (when I get a chance).

Work to be done in the next couple of weeks for MOT and then I am definitely selling!

Oil Service
Front top mounts
Front Handbrake cable
