MR2 TURBO PROJECT.

Post by bigal »

Here is a nice project for someone with the time, skills and space.
Been advised I was selling too cheap so I've revised the price.
Not ruined by senseless modifications. Mature owner for the last 10+ years. Always kept in a garage. Its so nice I used it at my son's wedding last September.

I bought the car on 30-03-05 from the 1st owner in the uk who had bought it on 18-12-04 when the mileage on the mot was 73,030 which would have been kms as the clocks were converted to read in mph, so the mileage was about 45,360 miles. When I had the last mot done on 13-11-14 the mileage was 91744 and now its slightly over 92,000 so the total mileage is about 65,000 miles, hope you followed that.
In 2006 I had the following work done at Peter Giddens.....
Fit full chassis bush kit. Fit new N/S inner track rod end and new N/S outer track rod end. Replace N/S/R wheel bearing. Total...£515.90.

2007... Goodridge brake line kit......£52.95
2007...New ignition wires, Toyota.....£79.75
2007...New aerial mast..£30.56
2006... New rear caliper...£86+vat
2006...New rear caliper....and handbrake cables...£136
2006...Brake pads.....£16.77
2006...Hanbrake cables...£40.20
2015...Alternator.....£125.00
2015...Wheel alignment...£29.99
2015.....Hart racing wheels refurbished ....£264
2006...New discs.
2006...Cambelt changed.
2015 New battery.
The car has the following....

Blitz decat.
Blitz air filter.
Blitz turbo timer.
Toad alarm, immobiliser, Ai606.
Mongoose stainless exhaust.
Momo steering wheel.
Tein coilovers.
JVC EXAD cd/receiver with SD and remote.
Manual boost ontroller, never over boosted.
FCD.
Uprated Infinity Reference speakers and tweeters.
Lots of paperwork including Japanese, JVC booklet, Toad certificate, mots, etc.

The car has leather seats and I have the original cloth seats. It has a nice set of 17" wheels with excellent tyres and I have the refurbished Hart lightweight wheels that were on the car when I bought it, these are lovely wheels, 16"rears and 15" fronts and wider at the rear, I haven't had them on the car since they were refurbished, they need new tyres but I have bought some new Toyo Proxes for the front. In 2013 I replaced the coolant, changed the oil and filter, and changed the fuel filter. In June , 2015 I changed the cam cover gasket. In 2013 I had the ECU repaired as I had a starting problem which turned out to be the faulty ECU leaking capacitor problem, apparently a known problem on the forums with stored mr2 turbos, this was repaired with new capacitors.
In 2015 I had a problem where the battery wasn't charging, after fitting a new alternator and a new battery the fault was traced to the black and green wire going to the 3 pin alternator plug...another known issue in the MR2 community, a new wire was spliced in and the car is charging perfectly now.
The car is in extremely good condition.......however......nothing is perfect and the car has 3 issues.

1. The engine is leaking oil somewhere, I thought it may be the cam cover gasket so replaced it last year, but there is still a leak somewhere, could be the drivers side gearbox drive shaft oil seal or I may not have fitted the gasket correctly.

2. There is a coolant leak from the engine compartment somewhere which has just recently started, I haven't investigated this as I lack the tools, space and knowledge for this.

3....The engine compartment fan works continually when the sensor is disconnected but doesn't work when the sensor is connected....again I don't have the electrical skills to fault find and remedy this.

Before these problems popped up I had intended to keep the car for ever but at the age of 64 I am unable to work on these problems myself.

I have checked the inner sills by taking out the sponge inserts and there was no sign of rust at all when I looked into the sills with a torch, the paintwork is really good but close up there are blemishes but for a 24 year old car it is fantastic.

Last MOT ran out Nov, 2015 but I only did about 200 miles in the car last year. Car is sorned.

If you are interested you are welcome to come and view the car and if you have knowledge of mr2s you may be able to ascertain what needs doing.
If I were to keep the car I would have someone remove the engine and investigate from there. The engine is perfect and very strong though I 've not done a great deal of mileage in it, I only took it out on sunny days.
The car starts and drives fine.

I have the original front indicators, cat, and air filter, also an Eddy 3 pod pillar mount with water temp, oil temp and oil pressure clocks....not fitted.

As for price I'm prepared to be quite generous so I would accept £1,700 for the car and £500 for the Hart wheels and new front Toyo Proxes, so the lot for £2,200, if you think I'm off with the price then let me know and I'll reconsider. This is a genuine offer. pm if interested or phone 01952457250,...mob...07477963530, I am in Telford, Shropshire.

Sorry, at the moment I'm firm on £2,200, I think I'm being realistic as the car will be worth £3000 + when fixed.

I've been advised I was asking too little so I've revised the price.

Can you physically see evidence of the coolant in the engine bay and does it leave a patch on the floor?

Could it be head gasket?

Yes its on the floor. I'll post a photo later.

Don't know but I haven't been driving the car, just starting it now and again, the coolant just appeared under the car one day, like magic.

Could be.....or the pipe that goes from the front to the back and splits at the bracket where it connects to the car, inevitable really but its lasted 24 years without a leak so not bad.
