1987 mk1 4age engine and gearbox

Post by chaos19810 »

I am just about to start a mk1 3sgte conversion and need to get rid of the old engine it runs and has just completed a 300 mile trip to the parents and it all works fine, it doesn't burn any oil or jump out of gear. You can come and see it run and drive it on a private yard.

I'd like 200 for the engine and gearbox it has a lightened flywheel and it will need to be collected

The engine will be coming out on the 24th of October, I will be willing to break the engine for parts if anyone needs anything?

I've got no need for the engine but if it's a 'double hump' gearbox then I could be tempted to take that and the flywheel off you for the right price.

The Mk1 isn't me area of expertise but but double hump do you mean two starter motor locations? And is that the only way to check? I won't be able to check until the weekend. And also what do you consider a good price?

Yes, double hump means it has both starter locations.

I only really need it for the bellhousing rather than the whole box (I'm building a spare 6 speed for the race car) so the price would need to reflect that, I'll offer £100 for gearbox and flywheel assuming it's a double hump and the flywheel is a proper aftermarket one rather than a machined standard flywheel (I've had one of those before and it broke!). You should then be able to get £100 for the engine to get your full asking price, I'll even have a look around to see if I have a spare standard flywheel I can chuck in to help your sale.
