[Mk2] [Turbo] EFI fuse keeps blowing. Rev 3

Post by kev8611 »

I have started getting a problem with this fuse blowing.

Saturday evening i was driving along then my car just lost all power and cut out. Turned key back on. Fuel pump wasnt going and my commander didnt come on. Noticed efi fuse blew.

I changed the fuse and when i turned on the ignition for the lights to come on it just blew the fuse again straight away.

Went back to car next day, put a fuse in and it was fine, drove to glasgow it was perfect. On way back from glasgow today the car just cut out. Replaced fuse and got going but just kept blowing fuse every couple miles.

Anyone have any knowledge of what may cause this?

Thanks

When a fuse blows its normally a short.

Disconnect each item one at a time that is on that circuit until you eliminate which device is causing the problem. Then you can narrow down if its the device or wiring.

I had one couple of months back, Was an NA not turbo though, popped every time ignition turned on. Disconnected lambda sensor and it stopped. Short in sensor wiring. Reconnected sensor, fuse blew straight away. Nice easy fix. Good luck.

Thanks for info guys. Problem with disconnecting things then checking is it wont tell me anything. The car needs some of them to run then create the fault in the first place.

Someone did suggest o2 sensor also

All sorted. Wires for the old factory boost solenoid were shorting against the engine.

Ended up pulling the whole engine loom out to find it but all was worth it. Even deliberately shorted it myself to see if it done the same and it did lol
