rev 1 turbo engine into rev 4 na

Post by Kiefer »

now i appreciate to some on here and over on the mr2oc this isnt the best of ideas but its cheap if i can pull it off, so what im aksing is firstly and simply can it be done?

i have a rev 1 turbo engine removed from a 90 chassis, comes with manifolds turbo ecu engine loom and passenger loom, for the time being im going to run the na box shafts and hub assuming the box marries up, the parts as far as im aware i need to source is a chargecooler and alternator, now i have heard mention of something along the lines of just fitting the alternator on any engine as its all the same, but dont they have different plugs and brackets? is there any other information i need, or could any hazard a guess? im in no major rush the mr2 is my daily so i want to be well prepared before i even think of undoing a single bolt.

as for experience come from a family of mechanics tackling an engine conversion im happy to do when i have enough info, just converting a na to turbo is new to me at this time, so thanks in advance to anyone who can help me out! :thumleft:

Start by getting the whole kit together:

Engine
Clutch
Gearbox
Shafts
Hubs
Gear cables
Clutch pedal
Engine loom (body loom not required)
Turbo alternator and bracket (rev1 loom will have round plug, so get alternator to match)
Side mount intercooler or ST185 charge cooler kit

The clutch pedals are different between na and turbos??! :S

The alternator bracket im taking off a turbo as well?

As for smic over chargecooler or vice versa is one better than the over for efficiency?

Thanks!

A properly installed charge cooler will always be better than SMIC.
