Re: Mk1 4a-gte project
Thanks for the advice folks, i think i'll ditch the 20v idea for now, it seems like more work than it's worth for not much gain, i will just use the smallport GZE complete engine.

Re: Mk1 4a-gte project
My ordered shopping list so far, should have these parts in my hand by midweek.
New T25 turbocharger
Turbine .64 A/R , ind 52.90mm, exd 45.47mm
Both T25 exhaust flanges, i will Tig up manifold and downpipe myself.
Oil feed line with restrictor and water pipe kit
All gaskets for the above
This will allow me to mock the turbo up on the GZE and get some fabrication started.

Re: Mk1 4a-gte project
Using a shiny new turbo is just showing off Doesn't sound massively different to the S15 turbo I have.
Obviously you have the benefit of making your own manifold so have some flexibility with regard to turbo positioning however I found that I needed to relocate the oil filter to fit mine in (it's all hard mounted, but moved over toward the gearbox end by about 30 cm, I'm quite pleased with how it worked out). I'll also be moving the alternator to the inlet side in the standard n/a position to prevent it getting cooked. Starter will be on the inlet side too for the same reason.
Edit - grabbed a couple of pics to give you an idea of what I've done with the oil filter:

Verrry interesting mr bond....would be nice to have a clean sc setup and a turbo setup aswell just to keep things interesting. Please can you keep track of costs for info?

Re: Mk1 4a-gte project
Thanks for the pics on the oil filter issue, i think i will go for a simple sandwich plate and remote filter kit, so i can mount the filter well away from the manifold/turbo..... yours is very nice though.
I will detail all costs no problem.

Re: Mk1 4a-gte project
Kaiowas have you tried hanging that setup with clutch slave bracket/gear cables all routed?
Re: Mk1 4a-gte project
Not yet, are you going to tell me it doesn't fit?

Re: Mk1 4a-gte project
I've had a little play around with a gearbox bolted up with the cable bracket etc and it's going to be tight where your filter is, I don't know if will be a problem or not really.
I've not decided on a turbo position myself yet, everything gets in the way of everything else.

Re: Mk1 4a-gte project
glad to see you are finally going to do a 4agte Paul!!!
how is it going? got far?
As you probably know I've had 4agte's since 2002, I love em.
My current 4agte is using a GT2554r turbo @ 18psi on the stock 4agze ecu. LSD C52 and I run a w2a I/c set-up. It still retains the stock 4agze inlet manifold with an adaptor I made to whack a 4age TB onto it.
The thing goes like a cut snake and I've flogged it's ass around the track, multiple 1440 km return trip to the city to flog it's ass around the track etc... The thing wont die. (touch wood!! haha)...
Though soon I am putting a smallport head on it with inlet manifold to suit. I want to up the c/r so am either going to get my spare set of 4age 9.4:1 c/r pistons ceramic coated or find a set of later 8.9:1 c/r 4agze slugs and use a 0.8mm TRD headgasket.
I am even joining the dark side and moving to a aftermarket ECU... horror!!!
anyways, hope the project is going well for you. 4agte's are very easy to set up and extremely reliable. And will whoop a 4agze's ass when running the same amount of boost, the turbo is just that much more efficient.

Re: Mk1 4a-gte project
I've somewhat stalled for the time being while other projects get finished, my Lexus V8 powered Porsche 944 needs work along with other customer stuff before i can devote some real time to the GTE, but i have all the parts sat here ready to go, just got to make some free time.
Great to hear yours is going well and staying reliable.
