[Mk2] [Turbo] low power/ low torque

Post by goggins1234 »

hi is there anyone near to west Bromwich west midlands that would take a look at my mr2 rev turbo as I believe its low on power and torque doesn't seem as aggressive as it should be ive checked the timing and it seems spot on and done a compression test with car up to temp and tb wide open and got 175-180 across all 4 cylinders

im still running stock ic and my exhaust is 2 1/2 inch pipe don't know if this could be the problem?

im using gts chris mbc set to 1.1 bar?

really appreciate if someone could help me solve this

kind regards
mike

check all your boost pipes are securely fastened, I have had a few of mine end up loose, not sure how that happened but the car was slow to respond and just slow. Boost pressure was fine though spool times were terrible.

34 = overboost - what revision of car are you running and what boost are you actually running?

edit: 1.1bar is 16ish psi so I'm guessing a rev3+?

Still got the cat fitted , it could be clogged (bit of a stab in the dark)

I would look into boost issues, leaking blow of valve / boost leak .. that sort of thing .

Yep code 34 is over boost/ fuel cut , what revision do you have.

Defiantly look into getting an uprated intercooler, air filter, decat downpipe & exhaust .. basically do a stage one upgrade, that should help no end :thumleft:

Redmr2 is selling a nice blitz nur spec exhaust .. http://www.imoc.co.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?t=181416

If you have the funds buy a ebc its a great investment (my current hks evc is awesome), i'v had greddy and hks ebc's, and there still worth what you paid when you resell, much better than mbc's.

And yes , My first boost controller was a dawes device, my top tip is buy a cheap ebc of ebay :thumleft:

I got it new on the 14th july this year and its knackered already
im looking to get a ebc if anyone has a decent one for sale gizmo or something not too technical though

found the leak with soapy water in a spray bottle coming of one of the hot pipes from the stock ic

not getting fuel cut now and error 34 since I removed the mbc

gonna see if he will take it back or I will put it in the bin

What sort of bov are you running ... When I bought my st205 it ran like cr*P, I pressure tested the stock bov and it leaked like a sieve.. Swoped it for a hks unit , now the car pulls like a train :thumleft:

Not exactly scientific , remove bov and blow into it , it should pressurize 100% leak free , if it does not its failed

I could blow though mine with ease , fitted a hks and picked up about 30 odd hp .. it made that much of a difference.

its sealed to the pipe it doesn't look like it can be removed or is it tested fixed to the hot pipe?

when I get a aftermarket ic it should come with a aftermarket bov or im hoping I can fit one????

Just unbolt it , I think its a 10mm bolt, If its failed you will need to find an mr2 specific bov, or buy an ebay 32mm mr2 bov fitting kit (not cheap).

Hope its ok :thumleft:

Ps. Most intercoolers attach to the stock hot pipe.

Just put your gob over it and blow :eye: told you its not exactly scientific .. If it cant hold lung power blowing in to it , its got no hope against 1.0bar +
