Fitting oil temp and pressure gauges

Post by nitrodave »

I have searched and couldn't find anything, even though i have seen info on here before... so i thought i would ask again :)

I have a rev3 turbo and need to fit an oil pressure and temperature gauges.

What is the best way to do this? Is there room for a sandwich plate and sender units? If i recall the filter is quite low and would prefer not to lower it further.

The other idea i had was to run a braided line from the block and mount the sender units in the engine bay. Does anyone know where i could get one of these?

I'm curious to know what others have done

Thanks

IIRC there are 2 threaded ports near the filter that are perfect for this, you just might need a brass adaptor.

Hopefully someone else can jump in with the pic I have in my brain

There is room for a sandwich plate to go on before the filter. I have just done this to my car

to be honest, im not a big fan of sandwich plates as the sender units are likely to get disturbed with oil changes, which can be frequently and I also want them out of harms way. if they're down by the filer they are quite vulnerable.

Pressure - adaptor for OEM port in cylinder head or oil pump
Temperature - welded boss in sump

thanks Peter. that is the best and most permanent way i suppose. Would rather not be modifying my sump though.

Just done some power searching and found this thread which goes into depth.

the three block plugs around the filter look ideal. Think i'll go down this route

Yup, they work very nicely. However I found they might also cause the sensors to interfere with your aircon compressor belt.

Remember for pressure, the sensor can be located anywhere in the system. For best temeprature measurement, you need the sensor to be located within a good flow of oil.

I will probably only ever stick a sensor in a sandwich plate after tampering with the standard oil pressure sensor changing it for a hose / aftermarket sensor etc.

Some how it managed to put a crack in my head...
