|
|
Apart from twosrus in the states, can these still be purchased in the uk? anybody have any sites which they have brought these from? not sure why but been having a bit more leaking then usual recently. Been reluctant to change these but I think the seals are the main cause. the guides have been changed to the off center ones which helped .
thanks

youll probably want to change all of the retaining strips underneath them as well at the same time. its near enough guaranteed that the centre one will have no studs left attached to it, and the seals are rarely the issues, its water getting in underneath the retaining strips rather than between glass and seal.
jinxy did a guide on how to solve it. since ive done it (not replaced them, just put new screw clips in there and siliconed everywhere) there is hardly any water getting in. and what water is getting in is coming through the rust behind the windscreen and the t-bar glass side seals. the ancient t-bar seals themselves are faultless. might save you $200+ just to change the screw clips for about £10

I was also going to suggest what Jim-SR did, It does help massivly doing this and no seals were replaced on my mk1

the parts are...
90189-04029 x 12 (plastic clips)
90189-04110 x 6 (apparently discontinued when i tried to get them. these are the oval plastic clips for the centre retainer, just re-use existing ones and silicone underneath them if you cant get them)
90168-40061 x 18 (screws, if your t-bar leaks then yours might well be rusted)
62373A x 2 (these are the centre panel parts that will almost certainly have sheared their studs off. they are probably crazy expensive or discontinuted though. i just siliconed the crap out of mine to stick them to the roof.
also, there are the same seals and retainers running down the door a-pillar. i also pulled all this apart and sealed it all up. i basically put silicone around all the plastic clips so that water couldnt get past them, then i also siliconed all the retainers to the roof to double up on sealing. i did the same on the a-pillar door seals.
i thought it hadnt worked, so i ripped my headlining out so that i could fault find. and it looks like it did work, but because there is lots of water already in the car, the condensation accumulates on the cold metal/glass on the roof and drips back down giving the impression of a leak still. the only leaks im finding now originate from the sides of the t-bar, which is the seal that is part of the t-bar glass, and doesnt drip on my lap so i dont really care. all in it cost about £20 i think for the clips.

| depends on whether the leaks are from the roof seals or the glass seals. which corners, inside or outside? if outside then the seal is possibly leaking around where it meets to the door seal part as well. it should fix everything. if not then spend the $200+ on new seals and youve not really wasted any money, just a few hours of your time. chances are new seals alone wont fix it though.

mine are the outside seals....the ones where where the tie rods are. Its weird, depending how I park my car, i.e on a slight hill, backwards or forwards, the amount of leak varies...sometimes never. i can live with it but if fixing it for a 'few quid' is poissible i'll do it otherwise i'll keep the money for the mechanics and car my two towels in the car for overnight rain.

ive tied a rope from the little plastic clip behind the seat with a loop on the end that i hook onto the seat adjuster at the bottom. then i lay a folded tarpaulin over it. any water that drips onto it just runs off the sides, keeping the seat dry. thus far i find maybe 3 or 4 droplets on it a day, even in heavy rain. so its barely even needed, but does its job when it is. i find ice is more of a problem. when we have rain then it freezes over i will drive somewhere, and then the ice thaws out and when i park up it finds its way in (i guess where the roof has flexed around on the drive it opens up the gaps).
