[Mk3] [NA] Engine Holding back/Losing Power

Post by David Broad »

Hi,

My girlfriends MK3 import is having a small issue (hopefully). We've noticed when cruising at motorway speeds every now and then the car feels like it is holding back or has some kind of resistance against it, pretty sure it's engine related and nothing like brakes etc. It lasts for around for at the most a minute and is then back to pulling normally.

Can anyone shed any light or ideas as to what it could be? I was thinking maybe a dirty/partially blocked fuel filter or something along those lines but don't have a huge amount of expeience with the MK3's.

Thanks in advance

do you get any engine warning lights on?

Might be worth poping over to mr2roc and asking them

David,

Hmm, are you getting any check engine lights at all?

The Folks over on ROC may be able to advise further, but I'd have a go at cleaning the intake airflow sensor with a can of electronic contact cleaner - available from Maplins:

I'd suggest this :

http://www.maplin.co.uk/module.aspx?Mod ... 15&doy=5m6

Carefully unscrew it from the intake pipe (in the area of the airbox on the NSR) and liberally clean with the switch cleaner. Any oil or dirt should be removed without damaging the delicate sensor itself. Be careful not to touch or damage the sensor either !

Just ordinary brake cleaner will do fine for cleaning electronic parts :thumleft:
