Rev 2 Turbo AFM refurbish.

Post by hippidy »

Hi, does anyone know of anywhere that does AFM refurbishment / repair? I've measured the resistances of mine and they're all over the place. Toyota UK want £1016 for a new one!

Ouch thats alot of money! You cant really fix them but a second hand one can be had for under £50
Stick a wanted ad on the forum they do pop up from time to time. Also if memory serves paul at wood sport on here has a stash of parts may be worth a PM

Thanks for the reply had thought about getting a second hand one but worried that unless the seller knows how to test them it may also be faulty.
I'm going to try cleaning it first (looks like someone's taken the top of it before anyway), if not I'll try Wood Sports like you suggest.

I have seen one service that states that they refurbish them but they're based in San Pablo, California so was hoping for someone a bit more local. http://www.bavrest.com/air-flow-meter-service.html

For that kind of coin you could go standalone! or cheaper yet convert to Rev3 engine management and ditch the AFM although not too sure on how much work that is

I do have an AFM if after one as I switched from rev2 wiring / ecu to rev 3 if you decide you do want to get one.

Was fully working when it came off the car as car was running fine.

Driving home last night it decided it didn't want to go above 50 and was stuttering / hesitating a lot. Pulling the EFI fuse for a couple of minutes seemed to make it run better (still not 100%). Would this make sense as the AFM is faulty or is there something else wrong?

From what I've been reading (idle dipping and then slowly coming back up / poor starting / stalling randomly) it sounds like I might be needing that ECU as well!

All sorted, switched the ECU out first which helped the idle problem but didn't help with the hesitation. Then swapped the AFM and it seems to be running much better now. Thanks all. :thumleft:

Dont forget the ecu will need to relearn so it might be a bit hesitant and down on power till you done a few miles for it to learn again
