What spec wheels to get?

Post by [email protected] »

I'm looking for some new wheels for my rev 1 turbo. I'd like to get the rota gtr or rota grids. Ideally I want them to be 17" but I'm getting very confused with the offset and width. Some knowledge would be greatly appreciated. Also I have BC racing coilovers fitted.

with coilovers the general rule is you'll be wanting narrower front rims and lower offset as stock struts are pretty narrow. 8inch ET35 for example hits most front coilovers.

^this.

I needed 5mm spacers on my 17x8 ET38 front wheels to clear my Tein SS coilovers.

Rota GTR comes in 17x7.5 et35 and 17x9 ET35 which is almost perfect.

Thanks for the replies. I've bought a set of a-tech. Specs are 8j et35 and 9j et38. I need centre caps for them though.

Bear in mind that the front wheel clearance with coilovers varies a little depending on the coilover and how you've got them set up. With most coilovers there is some 'play' between the hub carrier and the coilover (same as OE) so there's some camber adjustment available there as well as at the top mount.

At 8J ET35 you may find you need to add positive camber at the hub (this moves the top of the wheel away from the coilover) and then compensate by adding more negative camber at the top mount. Or, add a few mm spacer.

Yea I'm guessing I'm going to be using spacers.

Benjo, have you got a picture of your car with those wheels on? I'm picking another '2 up soon and hate the current wheels - the JR3s look perfect and I was just trying to work out what size to go for :)
