Scrapheap Challenge (Strip down Continues)

Post by cabrioman »

Placed the rev 3 spoiler to get a feel of the look and position.

Need to make 2 holes each side of the boot lid to fit and fill 16! The reason i'm not using a rev 3 boot lid is because the rev 1 has a stronger spring to compensate for the weight of a rev 1 spoiler and i'm hoping with a light rev 3 spoiler fitted the boot will open up fully just by pulling the boot release handle.

I managed to remove both front wings and found minimal rust so very happy with that.

Removed the 2 vents on the back as well after reading about rust inside there but found only little bit too so that's good.
Removed both headlamp units and started to remove the front bumper but it's arguing with me
Will be back at it next time though :thumleft:

Now looks like this

Happy to be finally getting somewhere \:D/

Your boot spring idea - you may regret that. I had a carbon fibre rev5 on one of my old MR2s, which meant the rev3 spring was strong enough to lift the lid all the way. It was worse than the standard arrangement.

Is your 'spring' strong enough to hold the boot open fully? It should be.

Anyway, each to their own - just a thought!

I would seriously be considering getting a rev3 boot lid mate, much much easier than filling all those holes on the rev1/2 lid!

Then you only have to worry about the rear wings regarding holes. If you wanna keep your boot spring, just transfer to rev3 boot lid. Sorted.

The spring is very strong and when you pop the boot it comes up with a fair amount of force. I intend to fit a boot lifter to slow it down but still allow it to open fully.

Could do, but as i have to fill holes on the rear wings anyway, i might as well carry on a do the boot lid at the same time. On top of that it will save money but just means it will take longer.

Interesting. Haven't seen them before. Wonder what they'll look like on...

Seen a few people do them in carbon which can look decent on the right paint colour.

Was considering carbon but thought chrome would be a nicer contrast against black.

Spent a couple of hours down the garage again.
Apart from the front bumper (which i will need to drill out the fog lamp screws to remove) the exterior is now stripped :thumleft:

No rust behind the side vents and i can see a little down where the sills join the car. Fingers crossed once the sills are replaced , there will be no more rust. I'm thinking of having the insides fully painted as well to stop any more corrosion. Next job is to start repainting the suspension etc.
Trial fitted one of these

Car definitely needs to be painted black first.

Just hit a stumbling block.
The garage i'm renting is being sold with it's property which means i need to be out by March. :(
So now i need to find somewhere to store the project and a way to move it.
Gutted.

Carried on working on the project whilst looking for another garage.

Stripped the Rev 6 light ready to paint and may give the wiring a tidy.

I put the lamp units through the dishwasher to remove any debris from inside the units and give them a good clean.

I've been painting a few bits ready to go back on.

And i had these delivered today ready to be fitted :thumleft:
