help finding small fuel smell prob

Post by NuttyNik »

Hi all..

when I open the drivers window on the mk1 b I get a fuel smell
in the car due to the wind suction. is this a common fault and what will cure it.

no leeks in engine bay and checked fuel lines all seem dry and fine.
thinking fuel tank now is there a breather valve that may be causing this...

thanks in advance for the help on this. Its baffeling me :-k

yeh if its blocked it can vent where the fuel sensor is by the stereo. i had this problem and found that my petrol cap breather was blocked, try soaking the cap in thinners or drill a tiny hole in it.

9 times out of 10 it will be the little white fuel breather valve on the firewall between the engine bay and cabin.

You will see it just above the chassis rail under and to the left of the fuel filter. You will also see a hose coming in from the fuel system and another going into the chassis rail.
