The imported car will have come with a de-reg document, which the DVLA files when you register it. Thats how they work out the cars registration.

Why you ask that?

You can find out from putting the chassis number and vin plate codes into the EPC.

It will tell you to the month when your car was manufactured.

Obviously you'd need the EPC discs to do this!

cant you tell by looking at the labels on the seat belts?

Hi i looked at the Seatbelts they only have the year of the car on it.

Why you ask that?

I ask because i want to remove the cat from my mr2 but i want it to be able to pass MOT's, its a 1992 car - so i am hoping it was registed before august 92.

If it's a Turbo... then you have no worries at all... as it's Nreg cars onwards that by default have a CAT test.

The exhaust analyzer at the MOT station goes by Chassis code.
When they look up SW20, they will only see the 3sGE non-turbo engine listed. As you can point out the 3sGTE code on the cam belt cover. As they don't have SW20+3sGTE listed, they must apply the generic test - which PRE n reg, is a Non-CAT test.

Doesn't that just make it an early K? As in, built before the plates came out in Aug? Mines a Jan-93 K (according to V5) but UK so easier to determine.

I think so but does this mean i can get a new exhaust with no cat?
