removal

hi all,
this is how i changed the front wheel bearing on a non-abs 1995 rev 3 turbo

jack car up and support on axle stands or wooden blocks and remove the wheel

push back brake pads a little to make it easier to get the brake calliper off,
then slacken and remove the two 14mm bolts that hold the calliper on then remove it.

next slacken and remove the two 17mm bolts that hold the calliper carrier on (these can be a bit tight),
remove the carrier.

remove the brake disk

the next 4 bolts just slacken at first.
the two 19mm nuts and bolts that hold the hub onto the strut,

the two 14mm bolts in the ball joint

remove the split pin in the track rod end and then slacken and remove the 17mm nut,

then hit where the hammer is touching in the photo
but be careful not to hit the track rod end its self, the shock of hitting it will free it off the tapered fitting.

then remove the two bottom ball joint bolts and hit the lower arm with a hammer to shock the ball joint off,
and finally remove the 19mm nuts and bolts that hold the hub to the strut.
i put the wheel nuts back on the hub to protect the threads(just in case).

remove the bearing sealing cap on the rear of the hub with a small chisel or an old screw driver and hammer
(try not to bend this cap as it has to go back on)

knockout the locking tab on the hub nut so the nut will turn, this nut is 27mm and i undid this with my impact gun,

a power bar and a vice will do though, this nut was tight.
remove nut and washer.

wipe away the old grease so that you can find the end of the cir-clip, using cir-clip pliers remove the clip.

put the hub in a vice and remove the wheel hub out of the bearing race (i used a slide hammer for this).

remove the remains of the inner bearing race(i used a 3 legged puller and some heat)if you cut it with a grinder then hit it with a hammer and chisel
it will crack and then slid it up and off.

the bearing comes out of the rear of the hub, i used a hydraulic press to remove the old bearing but this can be done with brute force
(hammer and a couple of old sockets) watch your fingers

grease the new bearing up
press the new bearing in with the old bearing and/or a socket (46 or 47mm i used)make sure it goes in nice and straight or it wont go in,
refit the cir-clip. turn over the hub and fit the new outer oil seal (the old one came out with the wheel hub

press the wheel hub into the bearing but you must support the rear of the bearing (again i used old sockets)until you can get the
nut and washer back on then tighten the nut and it should pull the wheel hub all the way home into the bearing.
knock in a part of the new nut for the locking tab

put more grease in the rear of the bearing, fit the new rubber o-ring on to the bearing cap and tap the cap into place.

rebuild the hub assembly in reverse from number 4 back to 1

this is how i done this and i except no responsibility for the problems you might occur (this is a guide,not the law)
